Shannon Cannizzaro

Hello! My name is Shannon Cannizzaro, and I am an intern at Knit Psychotherapy. Welcome!

My passion for therapy began at a young age watching a family member of mine go through the struggles of active addiction. I am also interested in working with the first responder population since this population can benefit greatly from reprocessing traumatic memories. It was always my passion and goal as a clinician to help and guide clients through their darkest moments in life and help them confront their mental health struggles and underlying trauma head on. Through the help of schooling, training, and supervision, I am surrounded by trained professionals that help guide me every step of the way and help ensure clients are receiving the top notch care they deserve. I am honored to be involved in your mental health journey and look forward to forming a successful therapeutic relationship.

My approach is rooted in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy and the use of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Together, we will work through specific target memories that are holding you back and help you reprocess those memories so you can progress in your mental health journey.

When I am not in the therapy room, I enjoy spending time with my husband. We enjoy traveling to different states. One of our favorite places to visit is Gatlinburg, Tennessee. I enjoy going to concerts, hiking, and watching any new horror movie or series!

I am currently a graduate student at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling program. I will be completing this program in May of 2025. I received my certificate of completion in EMDR Basic Training at EMDR Professional Training in Fullerton, CA in August of 2024. I will be seeing clients under the supervision and clinical direction of Coleen Dixon. I look forward to working with you!
